Physical Therapy
Physical Therapy services at the Anne Grady Center encompass a wide variety of
treatment services to help our individuals maintain as much strength, mobility,
function and quality of life as possible. Staffing includes both a licensed
physical therapist and assistant who work together towards specific goals
identified per individual evaluations. Treatment protocols are established based
on an individual's needs and priorities with every effort being made to make the
process challenging, rewarding and enjoyable. The facility provides many options
to take advantage of which include a therapeutic floor (with variable
depth/moving floor), a hot tub, A Snoezelen®
multisensory room, adapted tricycles, a Nu-Step® stationary bike, a
standing frame, a beautiful campus in addition to many otherstandard treatment
modalities.
The physical therapy department can help individuals to:
- Improve their ability to walk
- facilitate standing up and transferring
- Provide training on a new walking aid
- help restore strength
- improve balance
- reduce pain
- expand positioning options
Updates will be forthcoming on expansion plans to provide outpatient services as
well. Our goal is to offer physical therapy services to those in the community
who would potentially benefit from our resources, including the DD population
and aquatic program candidates. Outpatient services would also be available for
those in the respite program.
Occupational Therapy
The Anne Grady Center Occupational
Therapy staff provide the individuals with activities and
adaptive equipment that will allow them to achieve and
maintain their maximum level of independence. The Licensed
Registered Occupational Therapist (ORT/L) evaluates each
individual's joint mobility, gross and fine motor skills,
sensory and perceptual acuity and their needs for splints,
wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment. The Certified
Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA), along with the
Occupational Therapist, work to implement the necessary
treatment which will allow optimum independence for the
individual. This may include:
- Range of Motion
- Developmental Therapy
- Adaptive Equipment/Wheelchair
- Orthotics (ie: TLSO's, hand splints,
AFO's KAFO's)
-Establish safe ways of movement for
both individuals and staff
Communication Therapy
The Speech Language Pathologist at
Anne Grady Services evaluates individuals for their
expressive and receptive language skills, monitors their
audiological status, monitors feeding and swallowing
problems and provides direct and indirect therapy services
for those in need.
It is important that each individual
be encouraged to communicate to the best of their ability.
Programs are developed, implemented and monitored. Sign
language, augmentative devices, cause and effect switches
and sensory items are provided to assist with reaching this
goal.
The Speech Pathologist works
collaboratively with other disciplines such as physical
therapy and occupational therapy.
